I purchased a 2006 vehicle back in 2007 but due to circumstances I never actually paid the lienholder. Now they did report the vehicle on my credit and tried to repo the car rightfully. That said they never did and I still have the vehicle and at this point so many years have gone by that they are no longer reporting it on my credit, I know this because I just pulled my report today.
Now I do know that technically this can be considered grand theft auto since payments were never made and pretty much I got a free car. I have looked into the states statue of limitations on grand theft auto and in California its only three years with an ability to extended an additional three years for a total of 6 but here we are year 7 going on 8. I feel that I was lucky in that I fell through the cracks. Now I have always paid for registration and keep the car insured. Would I ever be able to sell this car or obtain a title??
or am I stuck with the car and never be able to sell or trade it in?
